Hi

Just wondering if anyone has had the same sort of problems.

I have just recently done my 1st few quotes this happens to be for family & friends, some of them have no problem paying but others want it done for free!

Any suggestions how to go about dealing with this problem would be appreciated.

Also a quick questions - I have a rubi trowel 10mm x 10mm square notched, what coverage will this give me?:huh2:

Any help would be appreciated

hi mate, they probably think that they are doing you a favour.give your price then tell them to get some other prices.if someone else is cheaper and they go with them well then you will know the diff between friends and users.!! all the best
try telling your family that there aint any moneydue to the fact you only do jobs for family and friends!!!!

Generally it's good to do friends and family jobs but not for nowt. Either get them to buy you some tools as and when you need them or offer them a 'family rate'.

If your rate was £100 to the general public, then perhaps £50 - 60 to family and friends and explain this to them. You can often give them the tiles and materials at trade too where perhaps you wouldn't with your normal customers so they're getting a good deal.

If they're having the job done just because you need / want some practise though then maybe they're providing you with some practise space in whish case it would be mad to charge them. Maybe you'd then work out a deal and get some cheap tiles for them and spend some time doing it to get it right.

Remember that if your family is big and you get a reputation for doing family jobs at a loss you can put money on it that the whole family will clock it and offer their bathroom / kitchen too. So make sure you have a good think about where that line is drawn and be clear to the ones you make a loss on. Maybe even tell them to tell the rest of the family that they paid the normal price as they wanted to encourage you to stick at it ;) See if the rest of the family have the same warm heart lol.
