Thanks DT. Is it worth Silicon in 3mm between joints and at corners before tanking?

depends on waterproofing material the Silicon joint you are referring to is a basic bond breaker used to stop w/p sticking in corners were cracking will occur hope this helps

Did not think Aquapanel was waterproof - only water resistant, meaning it will not degrade in water but it will still pass through, the same as Hardie backer, who reccomend a poly sheet behind when installing in wet areas if i remember right.

please correct me if i'm wrong:yikes:

if you dont need the aquapanel for the weight issue then me personally would do 12.5mm plasterboard and tank it

As Simon1 says....

Aquapanel is not waterproof and will let moisture and water pass through it hence why it is recommended to use it on timber stud wall situations as any moisture can disperse behind it.

still good stuff though aslong as you use aquapanel jointing mastic(it expands into the joints ever so slightly then cut off excess or use a tanking membrane as others suggest.

lay an off cut of aquapanel in some water an leave overnight...it is quite absorbent.

better to plasterboard and tank or use marmox board.

Sounds pretty waterproof to me.

everyones idea of waterproof is different

mine is that waterproof stops water passing through it like wellington boots, rubber gloves, homelux matting and bal wp1

so will aquapanel stop your timber stud work from getting wet if you have grout failure or if a Silicon joint fails etc. no it wont.....

its the same as waterproof grout, if it really was waterproof there would be no need to tank the substrate being tiled, same as waterproof addy.

all these things do as you say, they do not deteriate when wet. so that makes them waterproof.???

would you like waterpoof wellies that let water in.??? or what about an umbrella that was waterproof, or worse that that a condom.

I want all these things to be waterproof as i believe waterproof should be.

I really don't want water passing through my wellies, umbrella or my glove..!

That said it's not a bad product but just a little misleading in its description. and bloody awful to cut..oh and very heavy.

Still needs to be tanked as water can pass through Aquapanel.
