primer g or bal sbr

hello,

was wondering what people think of these two products. ones at topps and ones at t giant.

anyone use these regular?

One is an acrylic primer and the other is a synthetic primer /additive..

primer G is just a primer for gypsum substrates etc and sbr is a primer and bonding agent used for slurry coats and improved flexibilty and water resistance in mortars etc...

2 totally different products but both are primers....

ahhh thanks,

the sbr stuff is a mix if 4-1 ratio with water if i remember right.

Will this be ok for plasterboard/gypsum plaster aswell??

yeppp!!...it is about 4 to 1....don't use to much sbr as it can skin on gypsum if not watered enough..

so as long as i dilute 4-1 it shouldnt skin, ???

ill be using it on walls that have a got paint on which i have throughly scored aswell.

you reckon i should dilute 5 -1 to be on safe side or shall i just go with primer g to cut out any risk of a skin be left?

well today ive managed to get myself a trade acocunt with topps.

from everything ive read ive decided im gona be a using a bagged addy, for medium size ceramic on bathroom walls, onto plasterboard, gypsum and scored painted walls. (its my first job since doing my course)

they have qouted toppfix palace stuff at £6 a bag for the normal and £9 bag for the flexible stuff. (which is with my trade discount)

I forgot to ask for the price for the BAL?

Price is a deciding factor cus i gave a ball park figure to the customer and their eyes nearlly popped out:yikes:

So ive got to find out the price of the bal stuff, but its between bal and palace at the moment.

Then use an acrylic primer....it's designed for cementious adhesives...

so do topps tiles or BAL not do their own primer,.. Tech department told me to ask for APD bal?

When i went in the guy didnt know what i was on about and said they only do BAL sbr, i was also asking about the bagged addy, so bad advice on his part to suggest sbr? what do you think?

SBR will do the job.....but bal sbr is expensive....apd is cheaper....and primer G is cheaper still...:smilewinkgrin:....

Is topps the only retailer you can get too..?

ive got tile giant aswell, so ill be able to get the primer G. I think 1kg bag is £10 then i think ill get 20% aswell.

Any ideas what the coverage is ??

You will find mapei cheaper at TG than Bal at topps...

primer G Coverage
100-200 g/m2 depending on use..

if i remember right the sbr (small bottle) mixed at 4-1 covers 60msq?? have i got this wrong?
