Priming Bathroom??

I am tiling my bathroom and ensuite. They are all stud walls, but where there are showers are plywood.
I have CT adesive(something like this may be wrong)
Do I need to seal the whole tiled area or just the plywood bit?? and what primer do I need.

Me and my husband are doing this job ourselves.

Personally i would water proof( tank) the wood area's..

What tiles do you intend to use.?

Pilkington tiles (240x400) and mosaic borders in both.

What is waterproof tanking?

Tanking is a way of stopping any water ingression from damaging the substrate(background).

When using a shower the grout gets wet and water can pass through to the adhesive bes and this i n turn wets and then moisture soaks into the substrate and can cause mould etc and even tiles to de-bond.

Ply isn't an ideal background to tile to on walls but by tanking at least it will prevent mould etc.

Tanking can be of either a paint on solution kit or a membrane that is applied just like wallpaper and stuck on with flexible cement based adhesive.

If it is easier the ply could be removed as we had considered replacing it. but what would be a good replacement??

CT adesive is apparently a powder,so I am told. Hubby just told me its called Flexible CTA.

right got it thanks ,
you could replace the ply with aqua panel or a similar product

i onlt asked about adhesive because there is an adhesive ct1 which comes in a tube , was just making sure you had right stuff

As above, I would replace ply with backer- board. Aqua panel,or the like

Definetly change the ply

You could mechanically fix 6mm hardi backer to the ply and just tank the joins. I think that would be the cheapest way of doing it and still as effective as the other thicker boards.
