Hi,
my first post on the forum......
been scouring the site.........more info on here than you can shake a stick at !

Read the PROBLEM WITH GROUT in the problems section. and have found a brief section in the WEBER tiling solutions catalogue (free for everyone just phone up and request one....a mass of information). I wont pretend I knew this anyway !

Bearing in mind problem description says some of the areas showing the problem were ply..............

(QUOTE from catalogue)
If the joionts are grouted before the drying is complete, water will be trapped. As it then dries through the grout the water will carry dissolved salts and cause a white deposit on the surface of the grout known as efforescence. This can sometimes happen anyway but the chances are increased if more water is trapped.
Heres the interesting bit
It is also possible for water to carry other colours, such as brown stain from wooden substrates, to the surface of the grout.

Was there a trend for this staining in the ply areas of your bathrooms ?

Thanks
SILVER

Re: PROBLEM WITH GROUT ctd

I think the guys that experienced it before hand just found that on the darker coloured colours they found the white patchy bits in it. I don't think we've seen a member of the forum that has found stain coloured efflorescence in their white grout though. But it must be possible.

If you think the Weber tiling solutions catalogue is something you should checkout the Mapei website! You can 'test' their coloured grouts on a CAD kitchen! to see what you think looks best.
