This word just gets on my nerves , it is used to death now ,you never heard of it years ago relating to tradesmen , doctors, teachers,judges, footballers were all professional , we were tradesmen and in my eyes still are !!:mad2: to me it all go's along with this wearing of fancy clothes for work, and the talking a good -job boys, .
i'AM not a professional ,i'am a tradesman, and i practice a trade, not a profession , LOL and screed is different from SLC to !!!!!! ffs:thumbsup:

funny story for you Dave years ago i worked fixing stone for a marble company it was owned by a greek guy called Andy he was just setting up the yard so it was early days , the accounts admin person(junior role) called himself finance manager the foreman in the yard called himself general manager , i was in the office one day when the delivery driver walked in and asked if he could have the title of "transport Manager" the boss turned and said to him "call yourself what ever you like, you are not getting a pay rise "

Me? I am just glad to be a tiler. I don't care about people who want to label themselves as an artisan or professional or tradesman or craftswoman. I leave it to people to judge my work. If you really insist on labelling tilers then the word "specialist" is most accurate - we specialise in a particular skill. Meanwhile if you really want to be vain get a personalised number plate for your van. :yikes:

I think until recentish years you would be the tradesmen who do it full time and are skilled. And it was taken for granted if you advertised yourself as a tradesmen, you had done said training and had said experience.

Though recent years there are guys who have done their nans plastering, got on vistaprint, advertised themselves as a plasterer.
And so the old normal tradesmen, now have to say they're professional tradesmen, to denote they're not that other type of guy. As it'd be even more cheeky for that other type of guy to say they're professional too.
