ive been tiling for 6 months self employed now well tbh ive done more decorating/driving/gardening as i can turn my hand a bit i did a tiling course and was told to ALWAYS PVA every surface which i have been doing now im thinking i may be doing wrong, advice please.

Yes you've been told wrong, there are a number of threads that go into the reasons on here.

i now hanve another question as the course i went on seems to have mislead me on a few things. im tiling onto a screed floor this week will this need priming? or am i ok to adhere straight to the floor.

Sometimes prime if the floors 'dusty' but not necessary all the time

you needto name and shame this training provider

other people will be going on this course and will be misled

the provider may already be on here and unaware that this advice is being given out

they can then investigate and make any changes they need to make

the place i went is now ceased trading and i wont be giving their name out as im not sure what any legal implications maybe, but the were in cambridgeshire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are no legal implications for naming the training school you went to, you can say what you want, good or bad so long as its the truth, its called an opinion. If I had paid out good money for a course that advocated pva useage in the wrong situation then I would be naming and shaming them.

it is in everones interest to name them

other new tilers that are coming onto this forum may have attended and if they are aware they can test what they have been taught against the more experianced tilers knowledge

i attended a two year day release nvq course

i sent myself from my own building maintenance business

the course was part of the plastering dept and the background section was taught by the plastering lecturers

and boy do they love using pva

the tiling area was a mezzanine above the plastering section and we were taught by a city and guilds qualified tiler with over 30 yrs practical tiling under his belt

he made it very clear that if he caught anyone upstairs with pva he would fail them for not listening

there are no circumstances where pva is used in tiling

despite being a two year nvq course there are huge gaps in the training on backgrounds and adhesives

i have the coursework in a folder which i read from time to time

lots on setting out and cutting but thats about it

the college is no longer running this course
