Quality of Winckelmans tiles from Original Features. What's acceptable

Hello,

I am a somewhat novice tiler but I do enjoy tiling so I'm always keen to have a go. I am about to retile the hearth in front of our victorian fireplace and thought that a simple victorian mosiac would look great - I calculated the area and how many of each tiles I would need and ordered them from Original Features.

They have arrived and a lot of them are chipped, especially the 50mm and 35mm white triangles which have a lot of corners missing, I have contacted Original Features who are very apologetic and are going to send out replacements.

My question is what quality should I expect from a Winckelmans tile? Should I accept the smaller chips? And only request replacements for the really bad ones? Or am I being taken for a fool and should all these tiles have crisp edges?

Yes Wincklemens are not the best geometric tiles especially sizes and chipping!
Take the opportunity of getting every tile perfect and don't accept any faults - they cost enough and they may allow you to keep the 'rough' ones for cuts. Otherwise get them to pay for the return as they are not fit for purpose under sale of goods act.
Its ok wanting a 110 year old floor, but if it's got chips it will look awful for a modern reproduction unlike a restoration job where they look old.

Thanks John, I was definitely expecting perfect tiles for the price so I'll push for that! Most of the white triangles look like they've been thrown in a barrel and rolled around for a couple of hours, good to know that they should pay for return postage too.
