Discuss Quartz problem? in the Australia Tiling Forum area at TilersForums.com.

I fitted pink quartz(pre sealed)from Topps tiles months ago,
the customer wanted black grout but I was instructed to check on tiles for staining before grouting.
i checked a few with the black grout under the bath where it was getting covered and I wiped off immediately after grouting but left the tiles stained.
i told the customer about this and he said to seal it twice with advice thru Topps but it didn't make a difference.
the customer still wanted me to use black on it.
anyway I did and have tried different things on it from acetone to bleach but still not coming off.
the tiles were £100/m so trying to source something that will strip them back.
the customer has accepted it's their fault but I'm looking for advice.
Thanks

Chemically, quartz is extremely resistant.

Suggestions:-

1/ Phone the manufacturer of the grout and ask them what chemical will dissolve their grout.

2/ If number 1 doesn't produce any results try hydrogen peroxide, but understand this may bleach the black grout in the joints so try it on an inconspicuous area first. Do a google search for "Hydrogen Peroxide Poultice for Marble" to understand more about what this is and how it works.

3/ Lithofin used to produce a product called "Stain Away". I'm not sure if they still sell it. It was such a caustic chemical I think it was withdrawn. Anyhow - if you can find some we used to use it to solve problems like yours along with red wine stains on white quartz. (Chances are it's probably hydrogen peroxide based)
