Just been to the health club to look at the job before I quote. They want me to quote them for two jobs. This is for two changing/shower areas with a total sq meter of 105 sq m.

The first quote they want is to remove all the old grout and re-grout and change any damaged tiles. Basically the old grout has gone yellow and they therefore want it looks nice and new again. I have suggested they use Bal Microban grount.

The second job is to re-tile the complete changing rooms including the floor tiles.

As I stated before, they advise me that the background is Wedi and therefore, I guess I will need to either remove the old Wedi board and replace with new or is it possible to just tank over the old Wedi board and re-tile over the top.

Also I have never removed old grout, is this an easy task or difficult and time consuming?

Thanks
Paul

removing grout from tiles and regrouting without damagin the tiles can be a nightmare. It is time consuming and hard work.
The only way you will be able to realistically tell if you need to remove the wedi board aswel as the tiles is to do a spot check. ie try and remove a small section of tiles first and see how easy, or hard they are to remove, this is where the use of the Fein tool comes into its own.

Hi, removing grout from such a large area will be extremely time consuming and soul destroying, even with a Fein and diamond grout remover.
Removing tiles from Wedi will undoubtably destroy the Wedi.
You are setting yourself up for a fall if you quote for anything else than - remove tiles, replace wedi & re-tile.
They are obviously trying to do it cheap - beware ! Quote to do job right or walk away, could cost you dear !!!
Even if you decided to go down the re-grout route I very much doubt that you could give them a quote that would accurately account for your time spent !
