I removed slate tile from my deck today so that I can install a Ditra waterproof membrane underneath, (been having problems when it rains). The tile is 12” square installed over cement backer board. I am going to reinstall them so I made cuts in the grout that encompassed 4 tiles, 2’x2’ and the cuts went through the backer board. Using a hammer and pry bar I pulled the backer board along with the tile off of the ply-wood substrate in big 4 tile squares. It came up very nicely and intact. The backer board is nice and smooth on the bottom. Question is, after I install the Ditra membrane can I reset the old tile with backer board and all? Backerboard is ¼ “ and maybe half inch of thinset between backer board and tile. Would this be similar to installing really thick stone?
Also I am thinking about installing metal flashing where floor meets wall underneath the ditra, just for added protection. Thoughts?
Thanks in advance, I really appreciate the help!
