Rendered and Skimmed wall ?

Hi, I have a shower to tile in 400 x 200 tumble travertine. 2 walls are rendered and skimmed, I know the skim is not suitable, so can I chip off the skim back to the render then tile on that. Will be using Dural WP as well. Can Marmox be dot and dabbed ? Thanks.

i would comb the wall with adhesive ,then back-butter the marmox ,then fix , i would feel safer doing this .....

Hi, as i'm going to use Dural Durabase WP, is it as easy to knock out render as well and dot and dab some plasterboard then WP ?

dural doesn't affect the weight issues

found out the weight of the tiles and comes in at 34kg with ad + gr (4kg), I know its over,would it be ok or is it just enough over ? I guess it's a case of when do you say thats too far over.

waaaayyyyyy over weight there,skimmed walls are 20kg(or there abouts) if it was just render you would be fine,id try and take the skim off 1st,if not,could you not fix hardibacker to the wal?l,if the render is solid you could do more damage to the house knocking it all off,so sticking a cement board over(with adhesive and screws and plugs) could be your answer

Wallpaper steamers can blow the finish, maybe worth a try.

Sorry i meant the weight bit for the plasterboard and Dural, not the skim, I know thats too much for the skimming. Sorry I dont get the bit about sticking the board on top, Cant stick board on top else its going to be proud of the wall, as its in the end of the bathroom with 3 sides and 1.2 wide ? I can do that on the end but not the side ?

Think i will chip the skim off first. Whitebeam , is that just a normal wallpaper stripper ? Am i right in saying it could hold 40kg then ?

One of the steam ones, keep the steamer on the finish and you should get a popping sound...render will hold 40kg.
