hiya all, just been to see 2 wetrooms which were done 1 year ago. both floors are 600 by 600 porcelain.

room 1. all grout has cracked and broken but no movement in tiles so i have come to the assumption they have possibly used non flexi grout or not mixed it properly so suggested a regrout total area 8 sq metres.

room 2. all grout on floors broken again and customer has been using shower area so plenty movement in tiles as water has penertrated under..i proposed we lift existing tiles(4 sq metres) re prep or replace the 12mm ply thats down,,re tank it and re tile it,,customer also wants epoxy grout in both rooms now, then re Silicon both floor edges.

whats your thought on a price for this guys n gals ..not done much repair work but the stuff i have done customers seem to moan im overpriced.cheers

i have just got a big job all in 1 house
i am just typing to pick your brains if poss....?

1.there is 2 bathrooms and a kitchen they want part wall and full floor doin in bathrooms, i think the chap is on about 600 x 300 tiles on wall, the walls have got gloss paint on them... i think the plasters in there are doin all the walls so does this mean i have to prime as the walls will be a skim over the existing wall?? if so what do you reccomend?? ALSO what addy would be best i need quick setting as it has to be done in a week??
and what grout?
all this is totaling to 40 msq. i have charged £800 for this job including materials do you think this is a fair price.. ? its only grout and the addy i have to buy really and 2 lengths of trim as the windows arnt getting done..

many thanks you r help apreciated..

just quoted this job based on 3.5 days work @ 100 quid a day = 350.......the response i got was erm na i think ill go get some more quotes, interesting

erm, sounds quite reasonable for me. what's the betting they didn't pay much more to have the wetrooms done to start with??? therein lies the reason why they're having to be repaired after only 1 year....

exactly, the customer did also bring that up during his insulting opinion on my price,,i did say to him you may have only paid X amount but the jobs not done correctly thats why your getting it corrected,,erse:11:

you get what you pay for(pay peanuts get monkeys)try an not sell yourself short with prices everyone will expect it thereafter

And the moral of that story is - the customer will continue to have second rate repairs done to each wetroom, thus meaning that they will continually need repairing, year in year out, and will end up forking out more in the long run. If he's that bothered about price, surely he should pull his finger out and Do It Himself!

The first wetroom given a bit of encouragement and advise he probably could sort out himself. The second wetroom is a full dismantle and start again, which obviously isn't going to be cheap.

Customer are like marmite....

hahaha nice one girlracer, marmite!!! aye your spot on there he will end up getting 2nd rate cheapo repairs done continually,,unfortunately when someones had poor work done or been ripped of by his/her tiler its the tiler whos called in to sort it that is under scrutiny as the customer is left feeling anxious and ripped off, this may have contributed to this customers attitude regarding price.
