replacing floor boards

Hi,

I'm pricing up for big luxury bathroom. They don't want to have a step up into. It is first floor bathroom with floor boards. Normally I would just board over with ply then tile, but they want big 12m tiles so with 12m ply that will be 24m. Has anyone ever replaced floor boards with anything i.e tongue and grove then used two part flexi?

Are there other alternatives?

Thanks
I would consider overboarding with Hardie or No More Ply or similar. Bear in mind that they are likely to have big lixury carpet & underlay adjacent to their big lixury bathroom so the step will be much less noticeable.

I have got the job and start on 18th, went to my timber yard to source 24m ply to be told they don't stock it anymore as now very rare and expensive. He told me there is some brazillian 24m around but it is very poor quality and ply tends to fall apart.

Can I get away with 18m ply if a screw it down really well and use a thick bed of bal two part flexi?

Hi Edone,

I would be tempted to make sure I got 22mm Marine ply instead of the 18mm. Like Whitebeam says stick some extra noggings in and screw the ply down and you will be fine.:thumbsup:As long as the finished prep job has no deflection in it before you start tiling you're fine.
Would that take it too high with the tiles on top??
Try and get your hands on Mapei Keraquick and mix it with Mapei Latexplus for fixing the tiles then grout with Mapei Ultracolour

you wont need a chippy for that mate

just think of the ply as big wooden tiles but easier to cut :thumbsup:

If he has never carried out replacing floorboards with 22mm ply then he might be advised to let a joiner do it, It is an easy task to do I agree but only easy if you have the experience and knowledge.

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

22mm plywood, noggins so you can screw every 300mm centres, then a decent flexible adhesive. I'd go for BAL single part fast flex, great new product even better than the old 2 part.
