hi all.
im was preping a bathroom today . i was removing any loose skim etc and had to remove a piece of plasterboard that was stuck (bearly) to the lentel. the window is held on the sides but there is nothing holding it on the top. i will foam in around it to seal it up .
do you think i should stick some kind of board on again or could i tile onto the lentel and let the tile up against the window ( with 2mm gap siliconed )

Depends on the space available.
If you have a lot of space available I'd say use backer board/plaster board stuck to the lintel surface.
If you don't have enough space tnen tile directly to the lintel. This is probably the better option.

Kind of depends on the tile weight as well.

space is about 5" x 40 "ish. the tile is ceramic 15"x 11" ish. .
im in dreat that movement in the window from expansion etc would loosen the tile

You'll probably be okay if you leave a decent gap and silicon it.
Just make sure the window does not move- use expanding filler and cut back any excess once it is dry.
I'd prefer to tile straight to the lintel, using a suitable primer before the adhesive. Your adhesive supplier will recommend something.

my local adhesive shop staff are as thick as an artic of freshly saw logs. not one brain cell between the lot.
il be priming the rest of the walls with some primer ( not sure which one yet )

In which case just read the recommended primer for different substrates on the bag of adhesive. It's best to stick to the same make.

I would stick plasterboard onto the lintel then stick the tile to the plasterboard once set.
