Scoring Wheels

Hi All. Just one of those curiosity technical posts.
Was reading on the web about different scoring wheels,I think it was Rubi but can apply I would think to any cutter.
I know you can get 6mm,8mm ,10mm etc but they were saying the larger wheels are for thicker tiles?? Not knowing nothing that does not make sense to me. Since the wheel only scores the surface of tile cannot see the reason for the statement. I can understand different wheels for different harness of tile like ceramic & porcelain etc? Even so what would a 8mm scorer do that a 6mm cannot?

For Rubi wheels, the basics are "supposed to be":

6mm = Ceramic Wall
8mm = Porcelain
10mm = Ceramic Floor
18mm = Rough Textured ceramics, porcelain and quarry tiles.
22mm = If 18mm don't work!

The size dictates the chamfer of the cutting edge. Rubi say this is what they're for, but trial and error and finding what you're comfortable with or what gives you the neatest cut is the best way. Rubi do a full pack of all the sizes. Get one of them and have a play!
