Hi,
Almost layed Travertine floor, just wondered how you go about the sealing and grouting of them.Where my customer got them from they said to seal first then grout, then seal again, just wondered what your thoughts on this were.
Also what does the term honed and filled mean?
Does honed mean sanded down for a smooth finish?
When I turned the tiles over there are lots of holes. These I skimmed with white flexi adhesive to fill them in,then I placed on a 12mm bed.
I hope this was the correct procedure.
Cheers.
Vin.

Honed and filled means that the travertine has holes in it, and they fill them with resin then they are honed to a smooth flat surface with a honing powder. I always grout first then seal, make sure you wash the grout residue off the tiles. Then i would leave 24hrs to thoroughly dry before applying minimum of two coats of sealer giving them the right amount of time too dry between coats. It may need more depending how porous the trav is.

I seal after fixing, leave it over night before grouting and then seal again after the grouting is finished and completly dry but I know people who do it in any order you can think of.
