Would be ideal to use a tanking system but depends on what the customer would pay for...you still Silicon round the bath as well..............dave..

On the subject of tanking what do you advise the customer? Most customers i have had decline to have it but what advice should i give? As in what are the affects of not tanking (say you were tiling over plaster), would you say to a customer? Water could penetrate after 12 months for example (even if well grouted and sealed. Hope you understand difficult to get what i mean across in words.

the majority of domestic showers do not get exposed to prolonged wetting..so in theory its not usually a problem if a water resistant grout is used..but it doesnt hurt to tank for long term peace of mind..........dave..

So is it actually even worth suggesting tanking in a normal house that has a bath with a shower fitted?

It is worth mentioning yes..as the customer then has the option ..if they say yes then it beneficial to you as well and not just them ..pennies.lol.lol......joking aside.. advise customer to put a kit in and if they refuse then don't panic at least they have had the option..so no come backs to you.....dave....

If the tiles are laid with top class addy and grouted and sealed well can you really expect much water penetrating through Dave?
Only asking cause a few weeks ago i had a customer who asked "if i don't have it sealed what are the affects and how long would it be before it affected my walls"

if you use a penetrating grout sealer ..then it should be fine in a domestic shower..will have to re-seal the grout every couple of years..........dave...
