I would decide where my main focal points are, i.e. kitchen/diner. I would then look for the most appealing layout such as tiles running through the centre of the kitchen doorway, depending on floorplan. Mark a datum then take measurements to identify where cuts fall. Do this for both x & y axis and adjust until you are happy with where all cuts fall. When you know where you are going, ping your chalk lines.

It may take some time, but spending the extra half hour will mean that you will be happy with the setting out and it will deffo be quicker than faffing about with dry laying.

Good luck.

I would concentrate on the hallway and kitchen-diner as the main areas, I would'nt dry lay the whole area, Perhaps run some tiles thru from the hallway and into the kitchen diner area and do a staff stick. try and balance the toilet and cupboard with the rest of the tiles, You will have some small cuts just make sure there not in view if you can help it
