Evening all,

Should I remove the plaster skim on the walls and plasterboard before I attach the tiles? I'm using 30 x 40 limestone on the wallsand I'll also be putting some Kerdi up too.

Also, should I put some overlap the Kerdi and add some of the 'Coll' adhesive between the overlaps? Should I also add the 'Coll' on the floor where I have put the Ditra matting....as its not a wet room is there any point?

Cheers

Rob

the skim plaster can cause problems especially as you are introducing the tanking matting its not ideal and you need to ask yourself is it worth the risk of the job failing and you having to foot the bill to replace the tiles ,matting and probably the cost of plumber to take the sanitary ware out while you redo the job . no one on this forum will tell you to go ahead and cut corners so its up to you ,i have tiled limestone tiles on skim plaster and its been fine but why risk it ?

Perhaps if I rought up the skim to give the adhesive something to bond on to? Surely in new builds this hasn't caused any problems as putting limestone/travetine is quite common now?

You may find trying to take the skim off the plasterboard quite tuff but give it a try, Big tiles, Do they weight more than 20kg m2 if they do would'nt tile onto skimmed walls

Just to add...
Also as for the kerdi ...this does not add any strength to a walls substrate....what ever weight the wall can take it's the same with the kerdi on, no extra advantage....
