should i seal waterproof plasterboard

hi am about to start tiling my new bathroom which i have just drywalled with waterproof plasterboard. all screws etc have been covered but the board is bare - as it came. i am just wondering if it needs a mist coat of emulsion first? it wont be very wet walls as the shower is a full enclosure rather than water onto tiles. only place might get a bit wet is round basins. any advice gratefully received

Hi - tiling straight onto bare plasterboard can be done, but if you ever want to change the tiles 5 to 10 years down the line, you will rip the walls to bits.

I would advise getting the walls skimmed, then prime, then tile - at least if you do have a failure on the grout, the plaster is there as a bit of a safeguard.

If you skim the walls then the tile weights will drop from 32kg m2 on plasterboard to 20kg m2 on skimmed plaster....

Why would you skim a plasterboard wall for tiling if you want a safe guard tank the walls
