Stripped out a corner shower cubicle and existing tiling this weekend. The tiles could not be removed without taking the plaster board with it in huge chunks, so I have removed the walls/boards around the shower area and up to 3ft either side to nearest studs.

The exsisting board was 12.5mm thick gyproc plasterboards.
Sould I replace with the same 12.5mm and treat with a tanking system, or are there any better membranes, like backerboard for shower cubicle walls pre tiling.

I have read of Tar Paper as a water membrane being stapled up, then board fixed to studs with tar paper overlap the lip of shower tray and cut. Is Tar paper easily available here ?

I will try and get some pics up soon

Shower tray has an inch edge/lip around, once I board up to the lip do I seal the join and what would you recommend with.
And when I fix the tile over the lip what should I use to adhere that portion of the tile that will cover the tray lip?

Also, hot and cold inlets for mixer shower, what distance apart should they be for shower unit to be connected after tiling wall?
Thanx

Ok, re-boarded with plaster board, sealed joints and allowing to dry overnight.
Picked up a Bal WP1 Tanking Kit from Topps.

Use the tanking kit arond shower base and boards, and your waterproof adhesive to stick tiles to the lip of tray...I would then re- Silicon.....Gaz
