Stripped out a corner shower cubicle and existing tiling this weekend. The tiles could not be removed without taking the plaster board with it in huge chunks, so I have removed the walls/boards around the shower area and up to 3ft either side to nearest studs.
The exsisting board was 12.5mm thick gyproc plasterboards.
Sould I replace with the same 12.5mm and treat with a tanking system, or are there any better membranes, like backerboard for shower cubicle walls pre tiling.
I have read of Tar Paper as a water membrane being stapled up, then board fixed to studs with tar paper overlap the lip of shower tray and cut. Is Tar paper easily available here ?
I will try and get some pics up soon
