Fitting shower encloser in corner of room with outside wall on right and stud wall on left.
Gonna use shower tray and glass door on front.
Questions that i have are....

Outside wall is bare breeze block can i tile straight to it or do i need to cover.
If so what with and also what should i use for the stud wall.

I have bought all Bal products and the WP1 kit as recommended on here but do i need to use waterproof back boards or would plasterboard do.

Last question which might affect back boards is the tiles are 600mm x 300 porcelein

Sorry for all the questions i have done a search but none quite explained it for me.
Thanks
ian

If tanking, then plasterboard is ok, backerboard will take more weight though. You can tile onto block with cement based adhesive, but with porcelain, BAL products must have porcel bond logo on or be flexible to stick to it, likewise with the grout. Ready mixed or tubbed adhesives are not suitable for your installation......Gaz

Local tile shop in Burton on trent i beleive franchise of Capitol tile supplies.
Sorry i think i have mislead you the shower tiles are not porcelain they are for the rest of the room floor and walls

What tiles are going in the shower then....?

also this doesn't alter the fact that you shouldn't really use a dispersion adhesive( white star) on 600 x 300 tiles porcelain or not...

You really want to be using a cement based adhesive suitable for the tiles..

Not just the size but to use a dispersion adhesive and that size tile will atke ages to dry..as the air connot reach the middle.......You want to be using something like mapei adesilex p9 this has a long pot life giving you pplenty time to work with it...also suitable for porcelain tiles in the need be.....either way it wants to be a cement bagged adhesive you need.....

Only personal advice based on what I've done before - and I'm not the pro here.

But I'd cover the partition wall in Wedi board - probably 12mm. Also dot and dab some 12mm wedi board to the breeze block wall. Use wedi washers to fix the stud wall and wedi dowels to fix the breeze block wall. Seal all joints with Wedi waterproof tape. Then tile on top.

I'm no expert on adhesive, but based on what I've used before for similar work, I'd use howtex spf (or thick bed) or ardex (I think its 501 if I remember correctly - which is flexible, waterproof and the dogs do dah's)
