Shower tray

Installing my first shower tray - Do I get some of that edging strip used for bath edges or just use silicone? How do you apply the silicone - Silicone to plasterboard, then tile, grout and silicone again? Should I apply a bead to the tray and squish the tiles upto it?

I wouldnt use the edging strip it looks cheap and nasty, tends to leak after a while it always seems to deform and water gets under it.
I would fitt the tray and then silicone seal between the tray and wall, fill the gap so as it is level with top of tray and then smooth over with finger using water mixed with fairy liquid.
then tile leaving approx 3mm gap between tray and tile then grout and then fill the 3mm gap with a second layer of silicone and then finish it off with your finger again and a water/fairy liquid mix.

But I would also tank the plasterboard walls as well!!!

If using a riser kit put the tray in position and adjust legs prior to applying silicone. Then pull away from wall and get a really thick bead of silicone between wall and tray before pushing home - After 24 hours it won't be going anywhere! Def need to tank afterwards.

I like to tank the section of plasterboard where the tray sits against it first, then silicone it to the wall, then tank down to the tray with the tanking tape overlapping the tray then tile and silicone to the tiles.

I agree with peckers, CDS and scottley.

Tank plasterboard 1st then silicone tray into position, clean up any silicone that may affect the bottom tile, Then tile using the correct adhesive and solid bed method.

Then grout,, wait 48hours, then silicone perimeter joint between tray and tiles and also any vertical wall joints between tiles.

Leave to dry for 24 hours

Fit shower door/screen/enclosure as per manufactures instructions.

Leave silicone to dry again for minimum of 24hours.

Then get in that shower and get wet....

I dont know where the cheapest place would be, i get mine from Tile Giant, depending where you are in Norfolk. Have a look at their site, they sponsor the forum so there should be a link to their websire on the top left of the screen. There is a store locator on the site, there is one in Kings Lynn and Bury St Edmunds but what others i dont know
