Site work new build

[Sean SML Tiling]

Morning lads anybody work on new build houses? managed to get a few days a week with a big firm which is cool but money seems a little low. 12pm for walls 15pm for floors is this a normal price for new build?

round our way its £12pm walls and floors, suppose it depends where you live.....

just had a look ...Wales......should be £5 pm then...for beating us at the 6 nations rugby..:lol:

I suppose its reflective of what can be achieved in a days work. Empty room, new boards, no customer to worry about, if you can fix 10sqm a day then its pretty good considering you dont have to source the work, quote, etc

Yea everything supplied and already in the same room. We do get the odd mosaic boarder but nothing fast set wont do

Sounds about right. House bashing around Glos' varies from £12 - £15 for walls and floors.

if your young and fit theres no reason you cant make good money on those prices, just make sure you set yourself up right, clear up as you go along, get a couple of empty buckets to chuck the waste straight into and any nibbling you have to do, its the little things that save time and times money on site work...

PS: just make sure you find out what they want fixing before you start. Some builders want you to do larte format / metal trim / mosaic / porcelain on the walls for the same price as 200x300 for wall or 300x300 on floors.

Largest tile is 450 all ceramic plastic white trim. Nothing too difficult

Thats the going rate at the moment in most places.
As the others say if you're quick and efficient you can make your money, you have no real hassles, no pricing at night, easier cash flow and your tax is paid.
But it will depend on the site you're on, i've worked on ones where they don't mind what time you finish, on those you can get your dosh, but if you're on one where you are moving around alot from plot to plot and then everyone goes home at 4.00 then it is harder.
Trouble is you don't know what each site is like till you get to them.
I've got back into commercial and after years of domestic it's all i've done over the last 4 months, and i really don't miss the hassle of domestic!

Just to add to Andy Allens good advice , if you're on the same site for say a week , it will also pay you to set the next days work out before leave site for the day . Also load it out with the tiles you need AND remove them from the boxes ready to use. Like Andy says it's the little things that make that kind of work doable.
I only started doing a bit of site work - for a change - back around '05 , there's good and bad , you'll soon find out who to avoid .

Not too bad if you can get a clear run and second fixing hasn't started yet. I have an ongoing job doing apartments on a site for £12pm clear and its a reasonable earner as long as I have another lad on day rate to pull your own wages up. The basin splash backs with chrome trim work out about £3 each but you have to take the rough with the smooth as there's always more work coming.
