yes pj i mean building sites mate:thumbsup:
unfortunately this aerier of the trade is a bit of a closed shop the main contractors usually have there favorite sub contractors who in turn use men they know will bring the job in on time to a high standard with the least hassle and who have the experience to set out large projects, deal with architects, agents and other trades
so as you can see its hard to break in especially in the current climate

I got into site work myself recently and really am enjoying it much more than domestic. Prices depend on the job, some jobs may be £16 sqm and others 20sqm, totally depends, other jobs may be on day rate. Sometimes you really have to graft for your cash and others are nice easy days. At the mo i am working on a site of over 200 apartments and all is nice. We are only doing the small kitchen floors at the mo which are about 4sqm (£20 per sqm so around £80 per floor). Each floor is full tiles, not a single cut. Can easily knock out 6 floors a day including a nice long dinner break. All is good at the mo but in the current climate i may well have no site work available in a few weeks, you never know, only yesterday the second block of apartments we are supposed to start after Xmas was mothballed (started boarding up the whole block) cause they cant sell them.

Ring around some of the big firms mate such as Bovis land lease if you are interested ,they may give you a number for the contractors they use.

Good luck with it

Hi kilty,

In the years i have been tiling,i would say that 98% of my work has been on a building site and while the money per m2 may not be as much as a domestic job the potential earning's outweigh that.

For instance if you have a 50m2 wall to tile and can do it in a day or two for £15m2 and on the domestic side you have a 12m2 bathroom that takes you the same time(cutting round sanitary ware etc),i know what i would rather do.

Anyone who says that domestic is better than commercial, has probably never had a good run at it (commercially)

that is a good point you can earn alot more money on site so you can drop your m2 rates a bit caus you ll be able to stick on more tiles. i do prefer domestic over site work purely because it is abit of a challenge but with lasrger projects you can earn alot more money no doubt about it alot of my work this year has been 70% domestic and 30%commercial work and my best earners have been site work
