Take a delivery of competitively priced Chinese multicolour and cut some from 30x30cm to 30x15cm.
Overboard T&G floorboards with plywood and Hardie Tile Backer boards.
Lay UFH and fix using fast set flexible grey adhesive.
Set out design to incorporate a hand cut border and Frieze of Chipped edge Travertine followed through from Kitchen floor.
Fix Slate using fast set flexible adhesive and Sandstone grout.
Clean surface allow to dry and seal tiles.:smilewinkgrin:

Awsome slate floor considering there were a few bananas in that crate.

just a side question, has anyone had a slate floor ground/honed and polished?
I had a maintenance job to replace a few tiles of slate and when i got to the job the entire floor area of a one bedroom flat was tiled in slate when i had finished with a clean and sealer it looked really good except that that the lippage was just damned aweful but of course there was nothing i could do. I suggested going over the floor and replace the really bad ones but they didnt want to pay the money as they were selling.
A few days later i thought to myself perhaps just grinding the floor might have been an option. i didnt investigate it any further but what do you guys think, is it be possible?

i love slate floors,over trav any day,looks the dogs bits that john.

bobby,not sure about grinding the slate,but you can dress it with a small chisel,take any bad lips off,thats what i have always done

Some slate is meant to look Rustic!
Other slate can be bought honed and polished.
If you have the first and want the second it will need specialist equipment with grinding stones/ diamond pads of varying texture to reduce the surface undulations.
We used a black Norwegian slate a couple of years ago that looked riven but had been honed and looked like polished coal - one of the nicest products I've ever used.

It's not complete yet! Got to go back to London for 5 days to finish tiling into a room divider and get some pictures from the other side. Plus still got an entrance with steps and borders to do. But having been the happy recipient of the prestigious JOTM 2 years ago, I'am just happy to be doing work that is interesting and slightly demanding. Thanks.

Nice floor John, I am working with the same slate atm, good fun ain't it I love the one's that fall apart when you pick them up, even worse when you have just done a real tricky cut, and spread the adhesive, back buttered the slate, place in position then make one final adjustment, then we all know what happens next. Yep the bloody thing explodes.
