slc recommendations please

Hello can anyone give me some advice on which slc to buy ? I'm trying to cover ufh cables and I've already used a bag of ultraplan renovation screed but it doesn't quite cover the cables. I need a slc that goes from a feather edge to about 3mm and is easily available, can anyone help ?

Hi mate
Go down to your local wicks store, they do a really good latex floor levelling compound that goes from 0 - 25mm thick (you would need to add some sharp sand to go to the 25mm) priced at around about £14 a bag on offer, really easy to use and produces an excellent finish

Hi.

Do not mix slc's. Just use more renovation screed slc and fully cover to min thickness.

Thanks for the advice, so will it be ok to use less than 3mm on the bits that are thickest. The problem is I run out of the screed so half the room is ok the level is just above the cables the other half is to low the cables are still exposed. So do you recommend 3mm on top of the highest point or just level to the high point and would you prime first ?

NO!, like i said use to min thickness to cover cables.. it will involve fully covering again.. also you will need to prime for adhesion....

Cheers dave would using adhesive to level the low bit be an option ? I'm a first time diyer so any help would be great. I'm trying to avoid raising the floor height any more than needed.

Yes Kilty I did it was ok to use but watch out for it splattering if you use a brush to apply it. About £25 for 5kg

cheers dave I'll have to have a think then, use adhesive or raise floor height a bit more. any tips on getting a level surface if I use the slc ? As I wont have the cables as a guide. Thanks again for the help I've got to go now I'm on nights but I'd be glad of any advice ta

Cheers Phil thats a good idea I don't think it's for me though because my room is only small. I'm thinking of doing something similar. I've had a look at it today now it's dry and I'm thinkining of getting some thin plastic strips about 2mm should do the job, and laying them on top of the cables then using them as my guide. My worry now is will the cables melt the plastic when they get hot, I hope not. I've been trying to think where I can get a 2mm thin metal strip but I'm drawing a blank, I can cut down a bit of tile trim or something if I use plastic.

It's self levelling as it say's on the bag! It will find it's own levels. Just get more of what you 1st used and top up.
With UFH you did check to make sure the SLC is flexible.

I thought you had to get it roughly level and that smoothed it out. I've read on here that you cant just pour it on and leave it to do the rest. Yes the slc is flexible

You still need to float the slc about to required thickness, then it will self level to the point of being flat with no trowel marks.
