slips, trips and falls

well for any of you that dont already know slips, trips and falls are the biggest causes of accidents in the building trade and i had one today ,I went head first down 10 marble steps after the foreman on the job decided to protect them by laying loose 6mm ply over the treads and putting 2 tiny bits of duck tape on them .I ended up laying in a heap on the half landing with a gary sized impression in the skimmed plasterboard wall ,the foreman in question didnt have an accident book and when i asked why he had covered the stairs in such a dangerous manner he said that the covering was for show and the stair case should not have been used as there was a ladder in the back garden for basement access:mad2: ,i took pictures of the stairs before i went home and a picture of the damaged wall but i am sore as hell now and would like to warn all of you guys and gals to be safety conscietious at all times while working and dont end up in pain like me

sounds like me falling down the stairs one day,the plumber was walking through the hallway to the front door and i beat him to it!!! it didn't take me long getting up ! bloody hell i was sore as hell,thought my tail bone was gone!

Funny you should mention that, where I'm working the stairs are covered with a cardboard floor protector and some manky tape holding it down (not by me the owner) is misses took a tumble today, slid halfway down the stairs, she was'nt impressed.

horrendous work places are building sites, I'm only surprised that there aren't even more fatal accidents than what there are:mad2:

They used to say there were more deaths on building sites then in the army - but I'am not sure these days!

Like all accidents they happen out of the blue and you don't stand a chance.
But it does make you more aware and regular Health and Efficiency (thats a naturalists magazine) is important.

Did find that working on a wimpy site in 74 they were the only ones who supplied safety helmets and had you wearing steel capped boots, pretty well on the ball then

Like myself, are you under the impression that the 'site manager' was trying to riddle out of the issue before there even was an issue? Or were you all told how to access the basement via the ladder at the back or whatever?

he was trying to cover himself, if the stairs were not in use they should have been blocked off with signage to say so

because i dont believe in litigation unless someone is seriously hurt and their well being is compromised ,i am okay apart from a few bruises, had i broken a bone and it affected my livelyhood it would be a different story
