small floor

Hi All,
I know you should always sheet over floor boards but would you on a floor in a small cloakroom 2m2. Will be using 330 x 330 tiles.
Has a vanity uinit in one corner a toilet, pluss a rad.

If the right prep work is done then yes tile over them...but its easier and quicker to ply out.....( i don't trust just going over f/boards. imo.)....

My own bathroom is rather small and i tiled direct to floor boards. I used Biscem Fast Flex. The boards were all secure and then grouted with a flexi grout......5 years on....No cracks at all
Saying that, i always lie to use Hardibacker or NO More Ply to over lay the boards. I never use ply.

Sir Ramic you get the biscem from wide range tiles ?? Yes mate any two part flex adhesive which confirms to EN 12002 S2 will be fine on tongue and grove no matter what the size area it is and thats what the product is designed for and pay for it in the price too. For best practice it should be overlaid with a min 15mm plywood (18mm stated by the tiling body) and primed on the underside and screwed down at a max of 300mm centres through the exsisting floor to the joists. I do mine mine between 200mm and 225mm. With the modern hybrid boards you can place the boards down and use a one part flex which confirms to EN 12002 S1 and you will be fine mate. Just remember to use a good flexible grout.

sir ramic you mean mark ?? I know guys behind the counter quite well Ant can be a Big T*** sometimes. Do you know Stuart and Michael father and son both tilers ???

i used bal fast flex onto touge and grove at home when we first moved in just as a quick floor down 10 years,but is just starting to move.
but i wouldnt do it for customer, i always ply then i know theres no come backs.
i still use two part adhesive,and flex grout..

I always use to ply my floors out but i use hybrid boards now no more steps at the door. I have seen the yanks use a gauge that tests the floor to see how much spring or flex it has before choosing the correct product. The new 2 part adhesives are very good now compared to 10 years ago and i know mapei technical department really well and they would not recommend it if it was not suitable. I don't have much to do with the comercial side of tiling at the moment but if they use it, it must be good.
