soundproofing systems for tiling

I am doing job for a contractor that had this accoustic floating floor installed in a bathroom(mdf and a layer of foam stuck together).To cut a long story short we have had to screw down the mdf to the ply below the foam.The contractor who was trying to achieve an 'A' rating in the bathroom was very unhappy as this damages the accoustic properties of the foam in the floor(vibrational sound travels through the screws to the floor beneath)

I was just wondering what your guys experiences are in this area?I know there are rubber mats that are designed to recieve tiles,though I have never used them and dont know where to get them.There is also a plywood with a rubber sound barrier sandwiched in the middle which changes the resonation between the layers of ply.This should help vibrational and airbourne sound transfer.Again these are made in far off countries,and I would not know how to get my hands on them.

Any info on soundproofing and tiling or soundproofing systems or ideas that can be used in tiling would be cool.

Those channels are for walls and ceilings.And I am sure they will not withstand the weight of tiles etc.Though I am uncertain.

I was tiling on apartments in Manchester over Christmas and we had to lay a system called Regupol. It's a sound proof mat that you just roll out and cut with a Stanley like you would a carpet. You stick it with the same glue you would use on vinyl floor with a small notched trowel. You can then tile straight over the top of it. If you just google Regupol there's loads of sites that sell it

The trouble with sound proofing is to isolate sound traveling thru objects which are connected, most of the time it's only muffaled with the insulation thats added between the surfaces.

Minescarling how thick were those mats? And was there any bounce after they wher installed? Did they seem to dampen footsteps etc..

I've worked on a job once where we used Regipol, and BAL Acoustibond. The Acoustibond is quite dear. I think the new Single Part Fast Flex has similar properties, and works out a bit cheaper.

To get the full sound-reduction rating, it's important to install the product as part of the complete system, which likely will include some sound-attenuating foam or sealant around the perimter of the tile installation.
