Steam cleaners

Just a thought,
A mate has just bought a floor steam cleaner ( H2O Mop - Thane Direct UK ) He was trying to 'sell' it me one as the bumf on it says it cleans slate floors and grout etc but looks a bit 'gimicky'. Argos do a few hand held steam cleaners as well.
Has anyone used 'steam before on their tiles / grout?

hi faithy,we used to use steam cleaners in kitchens for cleaning the tiled walls ....the thing i found is that the heat from the steam and presssure is good for killing bacteria but i didnt find it cleaned the grout or the tiles very well mate

John, a guy told me once that those steam cleaners just drive the dirt farther down into the grout, and in the end nothing is any cleaner than it was before starting.

I don't know if this is true or not.

weve got a small hand held one

ideal for fabrics etc and will clean the dirt and mould off hard surfaces

but it wont whiten stained grout

well grout being porous the dirt gets ingraind, thats why we end up removing grout and re-grouting i suppose :yikes:

Steam cleaners have a place in our arsenal of machines we have a twin tank one so it never runs out. They can be useful in some situations but like everything else how badly do you need one. You guys can buy wet cutters from about £50-3K! How many buy the very best? Not many because very often the middle of the range will suffice and the job won't warrant it. It is the same with steam cleaners and pressure washers they look good on the telly but under industrial conditions they won't stand up to anything like the use we would need them for.

we bought ours to clean the oven as it was cheaper than the kits

brought the oven up like new

it makes short work of grease

my missus loves her roasties but whats it doing to our arteries
