I'll tell you the story....

Quoted a bathroom.. £390 inc adhesive and grout...fixed priced not a day rate or m2 rate.....customer excepts the quote ...jobs booked in all emails to prove it.

Started the job yesterday worked from 7.30 till 5.30....finished the tiling went back this morning to grout finished at 12.30 lady of the house checked everything and gave me a cheque for the full amount.
Hubby comes home rings me up demanding a discount !!
Reason.....because I finished at 12.30 today when I said it was a 2 day job..lol
So he's cancelled the cheque...

I've got round it by offering him £50 off because to be honest I just don't want the hassle....he's now supposed to be putting £340 direct into my account ...but will have to wait and see.

Wonder if he has to give his wages back if he's given half day by boss!

I'm sure if it went to court they take a very dim view on someone writing a cheque then stopping it....

Andy, how do you know the cheque has been cancelled? I would still present it to your bank.

Would the customer be charged by his bank for stopping a cheque?

You might end up being paid twice for the same job!

Andy you actually did near enough 2 days on it anyhow...round here a day is 8 hrs minus a quick lunch, you were there 15 hrs, that's a bloody cheek, do you think they'd have paid you more if it'd run over half a day

That's disgraceful , how dare he imply a lowly tiler shouldn't be earning a decent wage . Next time you have a sicky , send him a bill for the £50 , saying that's the day he didn't pay you for. What a w---er
