Strange Shadow

Hi, we had our bathroom re-done back in august. Within the last month or so I have noticed a shadow behind the white wall tiles, 'creaping up' from the shower tray. My first thought is some sort of water ingress but the grouting and sealant all seems to be in tact. Any ideas? Mark.

Hi mark. It is ingression through the grout , the grout if none epoxy will wick moisture from consistent wetting and certain tile biscuits soak in moisture and look darker through the glaze.

If it's creeping up from the shower tray, it could be your silicone seal. I wouldn't expect ingress through the grout unless it, a: has been grouted badly, or b: is a heavily used shower. As Dave says, grout isn't waterproof, but i would expect it to be water resistent. You can improve the resistence by sealing the grout too..
