Discuss Stud wall vibration - is it OK to tile? in the British & UK Tiling Forum area at TilersForums.com.

Hi all,
I have had to replace what is call 'paramount' wall board (the stuff that is a plasterboard sandwich with cardboard shell in the middle). The reason being that one side had gone rotten due to water seepage.
I went down the route of pulling one side down and putting timber stud work in the middle and then fixing a new sheet of water-resistant 12.5mm plasterboard back on top.
The wall in question is next to a door and there is a little bit of vibration when i close it, so if anyone knows if this will be OK once I tile with flexible adhesive (i.e. the vibration wont make the tiles fall off), I'd be grateful.
Cheers,
Nige

Thanks David for the speedy resposne.

Yes, the vibration is when the door closes, although I have been standing banging the door frame a bit to see how much it vibrates.

The is no movement in the plasterboard itself as there are plenty of noggins and I've screwed it down.

The other option (which I'm trying to avoid) is to take the whole thing down and re-build with thinker timbers.

I used timber that retained the same thickness as the paramount board - 35mm (deep) x 47mm (wide).

Not ideal I know but have double up on the verticals and also the noggins.

The alternative would involve taking the whole wall down and moving it out a bit to use thicker timbers (not my preference at all)...max I could go to would be 47mm (deep) x 75mm(wide) with 12.5mm p'board on each side.

Grateful for any input.

Cheers,

Nige
