Hi All
Looking at a job where underfloor heating is required and probably thermal boards if the customer is happy.
The surface is concrete, fairly level and flat but a typical rough concrete finish.
Should i need to run a thin slc over to get the concete smooth if using thermal boards or will adhesive alone be fine?
Was thinking of maybe a 10mm trowel just to help fill the rough surface.
Cheers all

Adhesive will be fine Kev, and you may not need a 10mm trowel. Perhaps smooth the floor first with the flat side of the trowel and then trowel again with the notched side, still need good coverage though. Obviously SLC will give an even better finish to but your boards on but it prob isn't necessary. How thick are the boards?

Thats sounds a good efficient way you've suggested.
Just been and the customer has already purchased the boards and there 6mm thick.
Should that be okay or to thin?
He's going to get back to us on the brand he's bought!
Could i also ask the best sequence regarding the bath.
Would it be bath fitted first.
Then frame around bath for hardiebacker to be tiled onto.
Thermal board
Matting
Self level compound.
Thanks very much
Kev

6mm boards are fine if height is an issue, if there is room to have thicker i would always suggest it as will improve performance of the system. The typical thickness used with ufh is 10mm.
check the brand with your customer to see what he has paid, you might be able to get in his good books by speaking with peter @ uheat and getting a better price!

6mm is ok is that's all that can be used without raising the floor too much. Like all insulation, the thicker you can use the better the performance will be.

Warm Regards,
