Just another quickie?

if I tank around the bath / shower area, can I get away with Blue star??

I have a few tubs in my shed thats all :shifty:
I think that would depend on the type and size of tiles you intend to fit. Blue Star dries by dispersion so if you take away a porous substrate by tanking and then try and fit porcelain tiles it may take sometime (forever?) to dry. You might get away with small/medium ceramics but i wouldn't go any further than that.

I never use Blue Star, only white star myself if tubbed.

Yes it does but it is a much more flexible addy than blue star. if you check out BAL's professional fixers guide, they stipulate there in one of their diagrams to use white star with tanking. Blue Star is classed as a D1T addy - Normal dispersion adhesive with reduced slip.

White Star is classified as D2TE - Improved dispersion adhesive with additional characteristics, reduced slip and extended open time.

Basically White Star does a better job in most circumstances when you need a tubbed addy.

You may know this or not but any D1 adhesive is water sensative and will brake down with water contact, where a D2 adhesive is water-resistant and all cement based adhesives are water-resistant. Also if cement based adhesive has a setting time of 2 to 3 hour it has a working tim of about 30 to 40 mins, if it has a set time of 16 to 24 hours the working time is around 5 hours this will bepend on the air temp but for wall tiling a standard set adhesive is generally better due to the working time, hope this helps.
