Tanked Plasterboard vs hardiboard?

Just a quick question chaps...i may have a job to do in the future where its old plaster lats that i will be taking off. is it cheaper to plasterboard and tank the wet areas or use marmox/hardiback or some other kind of board?

Depends if it literally saturated maybe. Hardie is water resistant and clearly states it can be used in wet areas. Id always give the customer thw option and the prices.

Hardie is water resistant not water proof. if its used in a wet area it must be tanked.

Hardi has no place on walls these days. Much better alternatives if you look around.

Maybe cheaper materials-wise to plasterboard and tank, but in terms of speed, using something like kerdi board or wedi/marmox/jacko and then taping joints to create bonded waterproofing - that's time saved = money made.

Why anyone would want to fight with HB weight and dust to create walls is a mystery to me! It's not even waterproof.

60kg/sqm with Kerdiboard.
Why would you still use HB unless cost is a major factor over time and ease of use?
Do you fix a lot of stuff over 60kg/sqm Dave?

Not if the board itself is waterproof - just the joints and screws.

My gripe with HB is that it's heavy - the dust it creates is dangerous, if it gets wet it transfers the water into the structure, it gets moldy (oh yes it does!) and I've seen it delaminate when wet. It's not for me.

To be brutally honest if that much water gets through the tiles to rot the boards, something is seriously up with the tiling

Agreed! We've all seen twenty yr old showers tiled onto skim which are perfect on removal.
Its just worrying that some products which are designed for a purpose, don't seem to perform as many people expect. Often the expectation is wrong and products aren't used properly though.
Hb is great on dry floors but I don't like it on walls or in wet areas
