Hi,

I am fitting a wetroom in to my bathroom and need to tank the floor and walls.

I have a question about one of my walls. The wall has been taken back to the brick work and needs to hold marble tiles.
Can I apply the Dura-wp tanking membrane directly to the brick wall or do I need to apply some sort of tile backer board first? (NB: has to be able to hold marble tiles)

If I do need to apply tile backer board how is this fixed to the wall? Do I use screws and plugs?

Thanks

Chris

I will have to tank the plasterboard with Dura WP tanking membrane. Will the plasterboard hold both the membrane (applied with tile adhesive) and the tiles?

Would it be better to Dot and Dab some tile backer board i.e hardibacker board or aquapanel board to the brick wall and then apply the marble tiles to this? Or does this type of board have to be fixed in a different way?

Regards

Chris

The weight for the marble do's include addy as well. If you want to go down the hardie dabbed onto the wall route use spf addy but wait till the first board has set before appyling a second board on top of the first board. Use fixings thru where the adhesive is when it is completely set into the brick wall or you can fix some battens to the wall then screw the hardie to them depending how much depth you have.

So much choice:thumbsup:

Thanks Whitebeam.

I think I'll go with the backer boards using spf addy and then fix the boards to the brick using screws and plugs.

Just a couple of last questions though. When you say wait for the first board to dry before applying the 2nd over the top of the first what do you mean? I thought they would just be positioned next to each other like plaster board. Is this not the case?

Also do I have to fix the board with a certain amount of screws or will a few do the job?

Many thanks

Chris
