ok lads and lassies,i would like to know what you all charge for tanking a shower area?do you charge half a shift or what?i have tanked out a few times but include it in the price but would like an understanding of what you charge.

I have not had a customer yet that has wanted it installing but it would depend on the tanking kit as to what I'd charge for installing it.

This has to depend on the system obviously but £60.00:

If you use one of the paint on systems (which I believe are being overlooked in the new European regs) then you will paint your surfaces and then lay tapes then re-coat tapes. The next day you will need to re-coat it all again. Most of these systems specify a 2mm covering. To do a shower wall and floor area where base sits I would say 3 hours so £60.00

If you use a membrane like Durabase or Kerdi then you put in your angle tapes lay adhesive on your area then put the membrane on like wallpaper and its ready to tile. maybe 2 hours again £60.00 quid,

If your going to do it properly then the membrane is the recomended method as you are installing a layer between tiles and background rather than trying to create your own layer.

We can sell you both but only show the membranes on the site as they are the better solution

thats pretty cheap kev as the wp1 system is about £60 to buy trade.
Its really a question of not over charging but on the same token you want paid for your work, its not hard work to tank out granted.

Paul my tiler charges £200 a day labour for himself and £80 a day for his Polish labourer. So every day he is on site its £280 wages (whatever jobs are being done) but then you pay for two people and they get twice as much done. He multi-tasks and gets the guy to do most of the prep work.

When he starts to tank using a BAL system it took them three sessions but that added up to 8 hours or a days labour. So he added £280 to the job for that.

On my other bathroom job I saw how easy it was and did my own tanking.
