thinset removal from concrete slab floor

Hey I am just wondering how pedantic I have to be when removing stubborn thin set from a concrete slab floor before I use a s.l.c and re tile? I have started the old fashioned way (chisel and hammer) but feel I'm being too precise about completely removing the thinset? Does it have to be 100% removed or should I just be removing the high ridges getting it level as possible before self leveling?

You could just remove what you can before using a self levelling compound. The more you remove the better really.
An SDS drill with wide blade on is good or a cup wheel on an angle grinder but that is dusty.
