Could I prompt some answers about how...hospitable..you find the adhesive companies at these shows? They all have HUGE stands. But ALL pretty much dismiss you as soon as you get on to the thing. It really mystifies me, are we not their actual customers? 50'000 bags or 50 per year - we are their repeat customers. It usually looks like they couldnt give'a....
Especially ARDEX, and for that matter WEDI; I have always introduced myself as having used their products for X years - not once have I got anything but..."uhh yeah" in reply followed by a smug look. Sometimes no proferred info, thankyou, free pen or naffall. They make you do all the running...like sales isn't their thing
Was different at Coverings in the US by the way. There they like you and engage. What d'ya think fixers?

i have to agree with you cbtc as a fixer at some of the tile shows you feel like a second class citizen, if you introduce yourself as a regular user they think that their job is already done ,if you introduce yourself as a high user of a rival product would they be more interested? by the way what do you think of laticrete ?top us brand with some good products imo

Found Benfer really helpfull at the show, There was a woman on the stand over six foot tall and good looking may have hazed my opinion. Was a bit peeved when asking someone at the rubi stand if I could buy a certain tool and was told "over there" pointing toward Dave tradetilers stand. Do agree with CBTC, The fixers are guys out in the field so to speak, They know what customers want and can advise them at the time what is suitible for there tiling needs, Not 600x600 in a small toilet:grin:

benfer dont deal direct with fixers and will aim your towards one of their distributers palace deal direct with fixers and so do granfix, i tried to buy some stuff off the rubi stand only to be told that they dont sell off of the stand they were very helpful and they took time to show their products and were well staffed

Absolutely guys - I do think we get treated way below any other customer base of any flaming industry...who DOES get the smiles from em?? A shop? Buying how much? How often?
I think the adhesive industry marketing / PR is way overdue some shakeup. I should say that the BAL guy in London had a good convo with me a while ago, and realises this and is trying to invigorate producer - fixer relationships.
Re. Laticerete; PRO Spectralock is just something - saw a demo. Price is way tooo much in UK now, but I think soonish you wont be able to get away with mortar grout on mid-level to top level work anymore. And this stuff works pretty much like mortar, but performs like epoxy.' Laddycretes' supply / marketing over here is like 0 though......familar story:huh2:

Benfer did give me a name of a distributer which was localish but £12 a bag for semi white spf thats good. It's so bad round my way for supplies have even been to screwfix for mapei grout, One independant keeps promising their going to get some mapei spf in but just keep dragging their feet on the issue, Another supplies biscem i've been getting lumps in the bags, There've run out at times of addy:huh2:
