Hi,

i need to put tiles onto the floor of a toilet room in the basement, at the moment i have carpet, underlay and some damp-proof membrane on the concrete floor.

can i place standard tile adhesive directly onto the membrane, would i need to put boarding down, or is there a sealer i can use instead of the plastic sheeting?

thanks in advance

ben.

i presume the plastic sheeting was applied by the carpet fitters,
if you pull up the carpet, underlay and plastic and the concrete below is solid and dry, the plastic was put down "just in case".

when the concrete screed was originaly installed it should have had a dpm and an insulator such as kingspan.

if its dry and solid tile straight onto it with a good quality single part flexable, i say that because i do not know the material of your tiles!

oh that is a problem, what are the walls in the basment like?
does it smell damp constantly?
you may be able to install a new dpm and 60mm of sand and cement screed then tile, but without a site visit its very difficult to say?

and whitebeam has a point also!

when you hear this stuff its very, very difficult to remedy over the internet!

have you called a contractor?

What dagger says about the screed but aplying a system before the screed for concrete with damp Xypex Corporation

that product is a dpm, i personally was thinking mapelastic smart?

i am sure this product is suitable, but as always check with the technical department for the products you are using!

likewise i have not come across the product xypex,
never the less sounds like it fits the bill, thanks!

Xyp[ex make a lot of waterproofing admixtures for the concrete industry. I have come across them lots of times and found the products I have used excellent. No reason to expect this one to be any different
