Hi all!

I'm new here and need a bit of advice. I'm tiling my bathroom and have reached the point where I need to work out how my tile trim is going to sit around the window before I can go any further. I've had a look on the forum for help but the only solution I have found is a 3 way mitre which I don't think will work in my situation.

Basically, I was planning to tile right up to the edge of the window recess, and right the way up the wall to the ceiling (i.e. past the recess). However on the side of the recess I only want to go partway up. So, whichever wall surface I attach the trim to it's not going to work, because it'll either protrude over the window recess all the way up and look odd because the tiles will only go part way up, or or if I put it on the inner surface I'll obviously have to stop when I reach the top of the window recess.

The only solution I can see is to bring up a vertical piece on the inside surface and mitre it to the horizontal piece also on the inner surface where I stop tiling in the actual recess. Then I will just have to attach the next vertical piece on the outer wall surface and 'hide' the straight cut.

Hope this makes sense?! If anyone has any better ideas please let me know!

Thanks.

Ok, I've attached picture of the area of the window I'm trying to do, so I'll try and explain myself a bit better.

The right hand side needs to be tiled up to the celiling because this is where the shower is, however the left hand side I am only going as high as one tile above the border as the whole wall doesn't need to be tiled, so this is why I don't want to tile the entire recess.

Basically, I want to tile the next row up to the window recess, but tile the recess itself up to one tile above the border as mentioned. So what would be the best way to fit the trim to enable me to do this?

I don't think the step down from 1 side to another would look wrong, the alternative would be just trim the tiles from halfway point, and feather finish flush the reveal to hide the cut edge of the top ones, and paint the plaster to the face of the tile, therefore hiding the cut edges not trimmed....

Something like this.....

Ideally I would want either side balanced.

GazTech I think your solution is quite a good one.....only other option I have come up with is to stop just short of the window line above the halfway point and that way I can use trim on all the edges using a series of 45 degree mitres. Has anyone tried this before I do it and it looks ridiculous??

I don't think it can be done with trims.....Gaz
