Hi All,

Yes, yes I know this has been covered in various posts, but I am just not getting it!!!:icon9:

I have practised but cant get away with a good three way external mitre.

I really want to learn how to do this effectively as I have two to do in my bathroom.

Lets assume I have a window ledge to tile around

I have at my disposal plenty of Topps trade 9mm trim and whilst I can do the first bit ok i.e edges 'A' and 'B' using a standard mitre. I generally Mitre the two pieces flat and stick them to the horizontal surface, rather than cutting them upright and sticking them to the vertical surface

But how do I butt 'C' up to join the mitre. Bearing in mind the trim when cut has a curve to it and so just doesnt meet very well at all.

Please, please can somebody post a photo of an example of this join, I and hopefully many others will be eternally grateful:)

Hi mate.
going by your diagram I always cut 'C' first and cut the top square (as if a counter top was going on top) and tile the front and return.
Then i mitre the 2 trims on top as you said you do and that way the mitre sits centrally over the upright cut. It can take a few attempts but ive found it to be the only way it looks good (without corner pieces)
give it a go mate.

Thanks lads,

I think 'IvegotsTILE' is on to something with the square trim. This should tidy up the mitre, although I can't say I have ever seen it for sale anywhere.

I have attached another (extremely dodgy drawing, which tries to get my message across better)

if you look at the vertical trim, the profile is curved so how could this possible be intergrated to join a nice square mitre without the square mitre forming a sharp edge as 'IvegotsTile' correctly stated.

I just wondered how people did it without the square trim?

Topps do the square trim mate in white and black plastic aswell as metal.Even some decent DIY'ers do it aswell

I think trying to do a 3 way mitre will end up looking untidy but some guys on here say they can do it but it's probably difficult to say without physically showing someone.
