Tiles and adhesive for electric UFH

Can anyone advise workable product combination of UFH cable/mat/foil, tile adhesive and type of tile to be laid on plywood floor securely screwed down on wooden joists in kitchen.

any ufh will need to have a flexible tile adhesive too allow for movement and expansion.
This is for the wired ufh coil or matting.:yes:

also flexible grout and any tile type apart from ceramic as the tiles will look worn rather quickly if its your kitchen floor!

Hi Bob,

Firstly if you ar eplanning on going straight onto the plywood, European standard IEC335/EN60335
recommends for safety that no more than 100W/m2 is installed directly on a timber floor and only giving you a 'Warm Floor' effect.

If you are wanting 'primary heating' i would recommend overboarding the ply with Insulation boards, have a look at Underfloor Heating | Floor Insulation | Uheat or if you are restricted with height use Thermopanel insulation Underfloor Heating | Floor Insulation | Uheat.

As already been recommended a flexible tile adhesive must be used. the guys on here do like Mapei stuff.

The insulation boards will be stuck down using the Flex tile adh and mechanically fixed (for security) the loose cable or cable mat should then be used. If you have not used UFH i would go with the loose cable as you can take you time with it and lay the cable where you want to.
Once the cable is down then use a self levelling compound to cover the wires, this helps protect the wires and gives a nicer tiling surface. Then use flexible tile adhesive to fix the tiles down with. Not forgetting the flexible grout!!

Thanks for your advice. As the floor is already laid we need the thinnest UFH matting possible. Can anyone tell me what's best?

sorry about this aaron! homelux do a range where the mats and cable are no deeper than 4-5mm

our cables are 3mm thick. its a duel wire cable so you only have 1 cold tail to deal with, which makes life a lot easier when fitting. All the cables and mats come with a lifetime guarantee.

you can tile straight over the cable (to save height) but most of the guys on here would tell you to use a self levelling compound over the top to help protect the cables and give you a nicer surface to tile onto.

Like i said earlier if going directly onto timber you should not be using anything higher than 100w/m2 which will only give floor warming. The thinnest insulation we do is 6mm if that helps?
