Tiles of different thicknesses - packing out with plywood

I have been asked to tile a kitchen floor with limestone tiles. 1/2 tiles are 15mm the other 1/2 are 20mm. I was planning to use 6mm thicker marine ply on half the room so there will only be 1mm difference to make up.

Is this okay?

Can anyone suggest any other solution other than getting extra tiles?

They bought it off ebay cheaply as last in stock of something - I think something like £11/m2 or £12/m2 which seems alright for tumbled jura beige limestone. I have thought about using a shutter and layig latex/self leveling screed. If I start laying at the join it will not be noticeable (hopefully). I did suggest they use the 20mm to make a small patio and the 15mm to do the hallway instead.
