I think we're going to come to blows, John.
I know the difference between a thesaurus and a dictionary.

I was going to post a similar word to substrate, but there isn't one!
There is for substratum.

I know we use other words for substrate, as is evident above, but officially there are none.

That's rather aggressive Kendo. By the way, it wasn't for your benefit, it was for the guest as HE didn't know what a substrate is, and I know that you do.
