Tiling directly onto foiled wundafloor heating mats

Has anybody tiled directly onto the silver foiled wundafloor underfloor heating system before? It is about 18mm thick with a silver foil and channels for the pipes to sit. No screed is going on top. Im not confident that this is right and could do with a second opinion.​

More info needed. is this system between joists or onto a concrete/screed floor. I cant say I would be happy tiling direct to a foil surface myself.

Is it between the joists or on a solid floor..... If on a solid floor it should have a screed, if between joists it should have the the timber floor and usual prep for tiling done.

They are just sticking the wundafloor directly onto a concrete floor then tiles dircelty ontop. The problem is the finished height of the tiles(white silestone 600x600) will be just about level with the top of the plastic door frame(sliding doors onto patio) so there is no room for a screed. I think theyre trying to cut costs by not taking up the existing floor(70m2). Wundafloor have apparently specified mapei kerabond but still not convinced.Think i best speak to a few adhesive reps on monday.

broken link removed i think they will regret trying to cut corners and the amount of adh needed will cost a fair bit read attached thread


cant say it would be a method id recomend as you will end up with a floating floor so to speak

Is the wonderfloor decision done and dusted cos there are screeded systems that can go down this thin.

Max4 Therm is one that I know of. Only around 20mm

Hi Ajax, Not done and dusted yet, i need to speak to the client on monday.Max 4 therm sounds interesting. Have you any info on it or know where i can find out? Whats your thoughts on tiling directly onto the wudafloor?
