Any of you guys out there suffer problems with bad/chapped/dry skin after you have been tiling? I had a few problems after doing my training and for the first couple of jobs as my skin became very dry a few days afterwards, with the usual cracks and roughness. Ladies don't seem to like rough hands for some reason,

I have discovered what I feel is a very good product, it is called "Gloves in a bottle" and is a barrier lotion that doesn't wash off. Though my skin is not perfect, it is now soooo much better than previously. I think it is good stuff, here's the link if anybody wants a look.

The main thing that will damage your skin is Cement and Cementicious products. Some people are more prone to the effects it has than others though but it can effect all after time.

Gloves or the Gloves in a bottle is a wise move for anybody but always take extra care then grouting as that's a fine cement and can sit in the pours of the skin for ages.

Also.... product technical data sheets are something handy to have. It's not easy to get them during a normal working shift but whenever you meet a rep or have chance to bother ring a manufacturer for some reason always ask for some data sheets on the products like grout and adhesive and epoxy and whatever. Some good simple information in them to help find out which products you need to protect yourself from most.

That gloves in a bottle sounds good. I just read up on it on that site. Thanks for that fella.

I find washing adhesive/grout off hands as you go... works wonders on reducing cracked skin.......dave...

p.s. don't be ashamed to moisturise....

I wash constantly too Dave. Clever thing about this stuff though is that it doesn't wash off. I found that my hands were recovering much more quickly after I started using it, and I only use moisturiser occasionally now. ironically, I was working on Saturday and had my hands in marigold gloves virtually all day, they have done more damage than constantly washing of the cementitious adhesives so I have learned a hard lesson there!
